Facts: In the old city precinct of Odense (Funen) lies the house which, in all probability, was where the writer of fairytales was born. This house opened as The Hans Christian Andersen Museum in 1908 – a museum devoted to the writer’s life and work – making it one of the world’s oldest writer museums.
H. C. Andersen (1805-1875) Because of his wide-ranging authorship, Denmark’s great writer, Hans Christian Andersen, wrote his name in the annals of world literature as one of the ’all-time greats’. He is best known today for his fairy-tales, which are addressed to both children and adults. Apart from 175 fairy-tales and stories, he wrote 14 novels and short stories, about 50 dramatic works, a dozen travel accounts, about 800 poems and a host of biographical works, articles and humorous short pieces.
