ABOUT FIRST AND SECOND QUALITY:After the last burning (glaze burning) of the items the factory divide the produced items into three (rarely four) categories after quality. First factory quality - best. Second factory quality (marked with a scratch across the three blue waves (Royal Copenhagen) or across the towers (B&G) in the hallmark). 2 factory quality are nice items without damages but with very small errors (a small blue dot on a wrong place, a burning dot on the backside of the plates, a few very small grains on the surface on the glaze etc.)When in use, no one will notice the item is a second factory quality, but when you take it in your hand and examine it closely you will discover a few small errors. Third factory quality (marked with two scratches across the blue waves)- rare to find but with larger errors than second factory quality. The rest of the production was scrapped and did not reach the market.Different words can be used to describe the quality: First, Factory first, First Factory Quality and 1' Factory Quality - all with the same meaning. In the item descriptions from Cornelius Hansen & Co. you will always find the quality described. Please
notice that 2' factory quality is not damaged or repaired - any error must be
from the production process. |
